The Present day

In 1959 the fort was purchased by the village of Chivres-Val and used as a stone quarry.

In 1979 an association to save the fort was created by Mr and Mme Potier to enable restoration work to be carried out.
In 2000 the ‘Communauté de Communes du Val de l’Aisne’ took over from the Save the Fort de Condé Association.
In 2001 the fort became a listed building (on the French Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques).
Since 2003 the Fort de Condé has been open to the public and is regularly used as a venue for events and various exhibitions.
The Fort de Condé is a dynamic centre for activities related to Remembrance and the conservation and development of our heritage.
It attracts people with a very wide range of interests – history and architecture buffs, children and young people keen to explore and have a day out.
With about 12,000 visitors a year, the Fort is one of the most popular venues in the Aisne department.
